Kit Digital is the Spanish government's programme, financed with European Next Generation funds and run by the public entity Red.es, that gives small businesses and autónomos a "digital voucher" (bono digital) to spend on approved digital services: a website, an online shop, social media management, customer management, electronic invoicing, process management (which includes till and stock software), cybersecurity and more.

The mechanics are simple once you have done it once. You check your eligibility (the programme is divided into segments by number of employees, and autónomos without staff have their own segment). You complete a short digital self-assessment on the programme's website. You apply through the electronic office, with your digital certificate or your gestor's. Once granted, you do not receive money; you choose a "digitalising agent" (an approved provider) for each service, sign an agreement with them, and the voucher pays the provider directly. You pay only the VAT and anything above the voucher amount.

Two points matter for a shop or bar in Marbella. First, the category "gestión de procesos" can cover point-of-sale and stock software, which is relevant if you need to change your till for Verifactu; the voucher does not cover hardware. Second, calls open and close, and the amounts per segment have changed over the programme's life, so the only reliable information is the current call on the official site. Do not rely on a provider's leaflet; check the source, or ask us and we will check for you.

A warning: because the voucher pays providers, some providers chase businesses aggressively. Nobody can "reserve your voucher", and you are free to choose any approved agent. If a provider pressures you to sign before you have seen the current call, walk away.

What you need to do

  1. Check the current state of the programme and your segment on the official Kit Digital site (acelerapyme.gob.es) [check current call status].
  2. Make sure your digital certificate is in order; the application requires it.
  3. Decide what you would spend the voucher on before talking to any provider, and compare at least two.
