Verifactu, explained for your business

The local reference guide, in plain language.

What it is

Verifactu is the name of the system that sets how invoicing and till software must work in Spain.

The base rule is Real Decreto 1007/2023, developed by Orden HAC/1177/2024.

Its aim is that every receipt is recorded so it cannot be deleted or altered without trace.

It affects almost every small business that sells to the public in Marbella.

Key dates

  1. 1 January 2027

Companies (SL and other legal entities)

  2. 1 July 2027

    Autónomos (self-employed)

Planned dates; the December 2025 postponement is marked [check exact reference].

Who is affected and who is exempt

Businesses already reporting through SII (in practice, turnover above 6 million euros) and businesses in the Basque Country and Navarra, which have their own systems, are outside the rule.

What your till must do

Signature
Each receipt is signed by the software.
Chaining
Each receipt is linked to the previous one; deleting a sale breaks the chain.
QR code
Each receipt prints a QR code that can be checked against Hacienda.
Optional reporting
The software may send each receipt to the AEAT in real time (“Veri*Factu” mode).
Drawing of a receipt with the QR code at the bottom
The QR code goes at the foot of the receipt.

What does not comply

  • Old cash register with a paper roll
  • Spreadsheets (Excel)
  • Handwritten tickets
  • Card terminal used on its own
  • Software without the maker's declaración responsable

Fines

up to €50,000

per year for a business using non-compliant software

up to €150,000

for the vendor of the software

What to do now

Does your latest receipt have a QR code?

Yes: scan it

It should open a Spanish Tax Agency page. Check that the details shown match the receipt. If the page opens and the details match, this check is complete and you do not need to change your system.

No, or the result is not correct

If there is no QR code, the Spanish Tax Agency page does not open, or the details do not match, you must replace or update your till system.

Contact one of the local businesses in our list to request a compatible solution and its declaración responsable. Then confirm with your gestor whether you need a digital certificate and which deadline applies to you.
